Knolls' philosophy is simply FISH!
FISH!
is a workplace philosophy developed by Stephen C. Lundin, Harry
Paul and John Christensen based on Seattle's Pike Place Fish,
a world famous market that is wildly successful thanks to its
fun, bustling, joyful atmosphere and great customer service.
The same principles applied at the market are applied at WKMS
to create energy, passion and a positive attitude every day.
1. CHOOSE YOUR
ATTITUDE There is always a choice about the
way you do your work, even if there is not a choice about the
work itself. (Lundin et al. 2000, 37). WKMS staff chooses
to go about the day with a positive approach.
2. PLAY This is exactly as the word denotes. By
playing, the school day can be made more fun and energetic while
learning takes place. In order for this to be successful, teachers
engage our students in "play" during the learning
process.
3. MAKE THEIR DAY Memorable moments are achieved
as a result of going out of the way to do something special
for someone each day. This positive intervention is invaluable
in capturing students' and staff members' attention.
4. BE PRESENT In the midst of all the energy and
fun, it is critical we focus on our students (both internally
and externally) while we have them in our classrooms.
