Frederick County Public Schools would like to remind
parents that vaccination is the primary means of flu prevention. This
year there will be two types of vaccine available and both are recommended.
One is for seasonal influenza and the other is for the pandemic H1N1
influenza (also referred to as swine flu). Influenza vaccination can
prevent disease and reduce severe complications. Therefore, we want
to make you aware that the Frederick County Health Department (FCHD)
is offering free FluMist® (intranasal flu vaccine) or injectable
SEASONAL flu vaccine for children 5-11 years old at all Health Department
seasonal flu clinics.
Additionally, FCPS and the FCHD anticipate implementing a school-aged
SEASONAL flu vaccination campaign at Frederick County public elementary
schools this fall. We are awaiting grant approval from the State and
will announce specific dates as soon as we have more information.
Free FluMist® will be administered, with parental consent, to
children ages 5-11 years old attending a Frederick County public elementary
school.
More information about flu and the Health Department’s flu clinic
schedule is available online at www.co.frederick.md.us/flu.
