News for October and November

1) Stock market teams are up and running! About 150 students are participating in the Stock Market Game, and they come to the Renzulli room during lunch to check the progress on their portfolios. Move over, Alan Greenspan!

2) Read all about it! The newspapers are hitting the presses. Look for the first issues by the end of October.

3) The creative writers--about 150 students school-wide--meet in small groups every other week. If you would stop in the Renzulli room during a writer’s group meeting, you would hear the comforting sounds of keyboards clicking and pencils scratching across paper.

Each group session starts with a mini-lesson and warm-up, followed by peaceful, concentrated writing. Mrs. Reilly provides feedback for all the writers in order to push them forward as young authors.

If your child is in a writers’ group, try to make sure that he or she::

• Writes at home,
• has a writer’s notebook to capture inspiration and ideas
• has a floppy disk or flash key to carry work between school and home if you have a home computer.

4) Our first web page design for beginners class was a huge hit! The second session, to accommodate the overflow initial sign-up sheet list, will be held October 29.

4) Our Type III students have some interesting proposals, from collecting used bikes for kids who can’t afford them, to composing a literary magazine to creating an electrical scooter to being a crime scene investigator..
