Karen Yoho

Hi, my name is Mrs. Yoho.   I am very excited to be a part of the superb 5 th grade team at Tuscarora Elementary.   I started my teaching career in 1993 after staying home with my three children.   I spent twelve years at Twin Ridge ES mostly teaching 3 rd grade, but also 1 st and 4 th grades as well.   I came to Tuscarora two years ago to teach 2 nd grade.   The students taught me a great deal about early learners; now I look forward to learning from the senior TuES students.   I’ve been studying the 5 th grade curriculum and can’t wait to get started!

I went to the University of Maryland at College Park (go Terps!) where I received a B.S. in Early Childhood Education.   I also have certifications in elementary, middle school, and English language learner education.   I received my master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Hood College last year.  

When I get the chance I love to spend time with my family (that includes our canine child, Kenzie, and our two felines).   I also enjoy gardening, swimming, and reading.   My choice for summer reading is usually in the genre of mystery.   A few of my favorite children’s authors are Lynne Cherry, Shel Silverstein, Deborah Wiles, and J. K. Rowling.   By the time school starts I will have finished the final Harry Potter book.   Since I don’t have as much spare time as I’d like for reading, I am absolutely hooked on books on tape that I borrow from the public library.

Mindy Barr

This is my fourth year at Tuscarora Elementary School!  I feel so privileged to teach in such a wonderful learning environment.  I earned my undergraduate degree at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa.  My master’s degree is from Mary Mount University.  I have been teaching Elementary school for 26 years.  The first 12 years were spent teaching in Fairfax, VA.  I have taught grades pre-k through 6 th and although I have enjoyed teaching all of the grade levels, I must admit that fifth graders hold a special place in my heart.

My family has lived in Frederick County for the past 13 years. I have 3 children that attend or have attended Frederick County Public Schools.  My youngest daughter is in sixth grade, my middle daughter is in eleventh grade, and my son just started his sophomore year of college.

I know that this will be another fantastic year at Tuscarora Elementary School.  Together we will help the children learn and grow.
