Attendance Incentive: In an effort to improve our daily attendance, our school will be participating in April Hoops.  Three lucky students (one per grade) will win movie certificates.  All you have to do is come to school every day from March 31st thru April 11th and you will have a chance to win. Please note that students that arrive late or leave early will NOT be eligible for the movie tickets. We will also be giving away consolation prizes for three students (one per grade) who only missed one day. We sure hope all of our TES students are in school from March 31st-April 11th.

Thurmont Lions Club: The Thurmont Lions Club will once again honor a teacher from the Catoctin Feeder schools as “Teacher of the Year”.  Nominators may be principals, staff members, fellow teachers, parents or students.  Please see Mrs. Krietz if you would like to nominate a TES staff member.

MSA Testing:  MSA testing is right around the corner. Students in grades 3-5 will be tested in reading and math from April 1st-8th. Please be sure that your child gets plenty of rest during these days and be sure that they have a healthy breakfast. Ask your child about the test, and encourage them to do their best everyday.  Hold high expectations for them.  Please refrain from scheduling appointments for the mornings of testing. Testing will begin promptly at 8:45am. Please be sure that your child is here on time and prepared for testing. Individual student reports will be sent home with report cards at the end of the school year. If you would like to see a sample of the MSA test, long onto mdk12.org, click on assessments, public release tasks, and then sample items.

“1-2-3 Magic: Effective Discipline  This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Dr. Phelan’s 1-2-3 Magic Model for effective discipline.  It is a simple and practical method that helps parents and caregivers of children ages 4-12 get them to start doing what they want and stop doing what they don’t.  This is a FREE program co-sponsored by Families Plus! and the FCPS’ Community Agency School Services (CASS), as well as the Sabillasville PTA.  The program will be

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 23 from 6-8 pm at Sabillasville Elementary School.

Dinner and childcare available for children over age 4.  Please register by calling Debbie Wivell, CASS coordinator at 240-236-1770.

SPRING CARNIVAL:  Our annual PTA Spring Carnival is THIS SATURDAY from 11-3 at TES…please consider joining us for some fun games, food and even a magic show!  There will be a bake sale, cake walk, petting zoo as well as a fire truck, ambulance and police car.   This year we will also be honoring our All American Everyday Heroes, so please come in uniform if you are a member of our Armed Forces or the fire, police or ambulance company!  Wear your patriotic colors to show support for these All American Heroes!

Summer Success:  We will once again provide a Summer Success program for students needing additional support to achieve grade level standards.  Invitations were given during parent conferences.  Please return registration as soon as possible.   Do not hesitate to call the school office with any questions or concerns!

PBIS:  As you know, TES utilizes a school-wide behavior management system that reinforces students for following our 4 school rules: ROAR (being responsible, orderly, academic and respectful.)  Students earn Cougar Cash that can be spent for items on the Cash Cart which include Café Coupons, Basketball time with Mr. Oman, pet time with Mr. Scharp and a variety of items for purchase!  Ask your child how they are spending their Cougar Dollars and how they can continue to earn more money for showing ROAR behaviors!  Our staff is grateful to our students and families for their support of our PBIS program here at TES.
