Notice to Non-Parents Seeking to Enroll Children
If you or someone you know is taking care of children whose parents are not living
in Frederick County, or if the parents initially enrolled the students and
have now left Frederick County, a change in enrollment status may be
necessary. Maryland law and FCPS school board policy and regulation set
criteria regarding the enrollment of children by non-parents. Please be aware
that having legal custody is only one of the requirements that is needed.
Call the Pupil Personnel Office at 301-644-5238 for information on children
being enrolled by a guardian before you go to court.
Moving?
Parents must notify the school when the home address is going to change.
Please provide an updated proof of residency to the Guidance Office. If
parents move out of Frederick County, the child is no longer eligible and
will be withdrawn from Frederick County Public Schools. Be careful! Make sure
you check addresses close to adjacent jurisdictions to be sure that they fall
in Frederick County. If you have a question regarding your address, call
Monocacy Middle Guidance Office at 240-236-4726 to verify the school of
attendance that corresponds to your address.
Travel Plans?
Parents who move out of Frederick County and leave their children under the
care of another adult need to inform the school principal of their intentions
in advance. Physical presence of the parent in the same residence of the
child is required for tuition-free enrollment in FCPS. If you are planning
for an indefinite absence, please contact the Pupil Personnel Office at
240-236-5238 to request a change to tuition-paying status so that your
children may continue attending Frederick County Public Schools.
Work Permits
Maryland State Law requires that anyone between the ages of 14 and 17 must
obtain a work permit in order to obtain a job. These permits are available in
the guidance office. Please click the following link for Maryland's laws
regarding work permits and the employment of minors.

PRE-PAID Meal Information
Prepaid information is helpful for parents so they can purchase meals ahead
of time and will not have to worry about their children forgetting or losing
their money. Parents may put as much money on their child's account as
desired. The computerized accountability system, in each food service area,
will deduct the purchases the child makes from the child's account on a daily
basis. If parents want to purchase meals only, they must indicate this
stipulation on the check they make out to the school cafeteria. Otherwise,
the money will be placed on the child's account to be used for a variety of
food purchases. All cafeterias participate in an Internet online prepay
program. Online purchases may be made at www.cafeprepay.com
and the payment will be credited to the student's account the morning after
the parent prepays. Be sure to click SEND to complete the transaction.
