Frederick County Even Start is a family literacy program designed to support the national Even Start philosophy of “parents as their child’s first teacher.” Even Start serves English Language Learners and Adult Basic Learners and their families with young children birth through eight years old on-site at Hillcrest Elementary School. The comprehensive program offers classes in adult education, parenting, early childhood education and interactive learning activities. The staff and families work together during monthly home visits. Even Start prepares young children “to enter school ready to learn.”
