Attention Car Riders

Parents who are picking up their child at the end of the day may not enter the back lot until 3:25 p.m.  Students are still engaged in instruction and the blacktop is still being used at that time.

 

Muffins for Mom

Save the date. We will be having our annual Muffins for Mom from 8:30 to 9:00 am Come join us for muffins, juice, and coffee. There will be peanut free muffins available. Please try to come on your designated day.

Box tops for Education

The first submission deadline has passed and many thanks to all those who donated box tops.  The PTA has raised over $900 which will go to purchasing recess playground equipment for the students.  The next submission deadline will be this spring.  Keep the box tops coming!  A special thank you to Susan King and Carrie Houghton for your help!!

5th Grade Parents

You should have received a flyer from the Yearbook Committee asking for Baby Pictures and 5th Grade Tributes.  Details will be included on the flyer.  Please note that the baby pictures will also be used for the 5th grade celebration.  We will be asking for more pictures for the celebration later in the year.

The Thanksgiving lunch will be held in the cafeteria next Thursday, November 12th.  Parents are welcome to join their students during lunch times. Adult lunches are $3.75 and siblings are $2.00.  If you plan on attending please complete the form sent home today.

American Education Week

Green Valley will join the National Education Association (NEA) and thousands of schools nationwide in celebrating the 87th annual American Education Week from November 15-21, 2009.  As part of the celebration, we will be organizing “Invite Parents to School Day” throughout the week, to provide you with a firsthand look at what the school day is like for your child.  This initiative is designed to spotlight the importance of parental involvement in a child’s education.   Please consider joining your child on the specified date below:

 

Monday, November 16th – Fourth Grade

Tuesday, November 17th – Kindergarten and Fifth Grade

Wednesday, November 18th – Third Grade

Thursday, November 19th – First Grade

Friday, November 20th - Second Grade

Green Valley Science Fair

The Annual Green Valley Science Fair will be held on Wednesday, December 2nd.  All students are invited to participate.  Science Fair information notices and participation slips were already sent home. Today your child will receive additional information if he/she returned a participation slip.  The form sent home today needs to be returned by Friday, November 13th.  If you have any questions, please call.

 

Entertainment 2010!

The very popular Entertainment coupon books are here.  These books contain savings coupons for Frederick and Montgomery Counties, as well as Baltimore and Washington D.C.!  Some participating vendors from Mt. Reflections Theme Search

DEADLINE IS TODAY!

National PTA is looking for a theme for the 2011-2012 Reflections Program.  The student who submits the winning entry will receive $100 and his or her theme will be presented at the 2010 PTA National Convention.   If your child comes up with a theme and would like to enter, please contact me for an entry form.  Tina Flynn 301-865-4548 or dan-tina.flynn@comcast.net.  The deadline for entries is today, November 6th.

 

RED RIBBON WEEK
Last week students at GVE celebrated Red Ribbon Week.  Due to the generosity of the PTA all of our students were able to receive tattoos, pencils and bracelets to promote drug prevention. Peer mentors also delivered morning messages about the importance of a drug free lifestyle.

 

2009-2010 PTA Reflections Update

Beauty is…

This is a great theme and students can submit entries in any of the following categories: visual arts, literature, photography, dance, musical composition, and film/video.  If your child is interested in participating, but you forgot to send in the form requesting guidelines and entry form, you can download these at www.mdpta.org.  Click on the Reflections tab to see the list of forms.   Entries will be collected on November 19th and 20th, so students still have plenty of time to create their artwork.  If you have questions about the program, please contact Tina Flynn at 301-865-4548 or

Windsor Knolls Middle School PTSA invites 4th and 5th grade parents  

You are invited to attend a presentation from guest speaker Dr. Lynn Friedman as she speaks on the topic of “Not for Mothers only: The Essential role of both parents in raising Middle Schoolers with Healthy Self-esteem”.  It will be held at 7:30 pm on Tuesday November 10th in the WKMS Cafeteria.

MLK Celebration Contests

Frederick County Public Schools is accepting entries for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration art and written expression contests. These contests are open to Frederick County public school students in grades preK-12 and submissions are due no later than 3:00 pm on Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Contest guidelines are available at each school or by contacting Cathy Menzel at 301-696-6902 or cathy.menzel@fcps.org.
