Attendance
School law requires all children to be in school each day. The
school year consists of 180 regularly scheduled school days. (See
the School Calendar-Handbook) The instructional school day is as
follows:
Grades 1 – 5 - 8:40 – 3:10
Morning PK - 8:40 – 11:10
Afternoon PK - 12:40 – 3:10
Students are not permitted in the building before 8:10
a.m. and NO supervision ( on the school grounds or in the school)
is provided prior to that time.
Regular attendance is vital for a successful school experience.
Statistics show that student achievement is directly related to
attendance. Please encourage your child to attend school regularly.
If your child is reluctant to attend, please contact the school
so we can address any problems together.
When you become aware that your child will be absent, call the school
before 8:45 a.m. to request missed work. This will give teachers
time during their planning period to get requested work together
and not interrupt the instructional day. Any missed work will be
available for pick up after 2:45 p.m.
Tardines or Early Dismissal
When your child arrives late at school (after 8:40) or
leaves early (prior to 3:10), it is disruptive to the education
of your child and the children in the classroom.
We would appreciate your assistance in not interrupting
the school day.
Vacations
The Board of Education realizes that occasionally parents will
need to take a trip with their children during the school year.
Students who take a trip with their parents will be excused no more
than twice a year for a maximum of five days a year. Please provide
advance notice to the classroom teacher when a vacation will occur.
Written Excuses
The law requires a written excuse when a child is absent. The excuse
must be received by the school within three school days and contain
the child’s full name, date of absence, the reason and the
signature of the parent/guardian. Without this information, the
absence is coded “unexcused.”
A written excuse from the physician is required when a child is
not able to participate in physical education or for an extended
period (more than 2 days) of recess. For the first two (2) days,
a written note from the parent or guardian is required when a child
is unable to go outside for recess.
