Deer Dash 5K Run/Walk & 1 Mile Fun Run
Deer Dash 5K Run/Walk in Final Planning Stages:

There’s one month to go before Deer Crossing Elementary School’s inaugural Deer Dash 5k Run/Walk & 1 Mile Fun Run.   This event is the PTA’s premier fund raising event for the year, and we are counting on 100% participation of all Deer Crossing families!

Here’s how you can show your support:

  1. Get your run on!  Whether you choose to run or walk the 5K or the one-mile fun run, please register by May 9 to guarantee a race t-shirt.   Register online at www.active.com (search:  Deer Dash).
  2. Donate to the cause:    Proceeds for the event are being used to update curriculum resources.   If you own or work for a local company, please consider becoming a Deer Dash sponsor.   We’re also in need of donations of various items such as bottled water, food (single servings such as granola bars, bagels, apples, bananas, etc), disposable cups, etc.  Please contact Rebecca Dean at dces5k.rebecca@gmail.com and let us know how you can support the event.
  3. Got giveaways?  We’re accepting items for our race day goody bags.  If your company would like to donate inserts (pens, coupons, gadgets, etc), please contact us at dces5k@msn.com.
  4. Give a hand on race day:   We need bodies and lots of them!   We need people to help with registration, monitor the course, and staff water stations (perfect for scouting troops or service clubs!).  If you can donate your time, please contact us at dces5k@msn.com
  5. Show up and cheer:   We’d like plenty of folks cheering along the race route, so please come out and join in on the fun.   We’ll also have live music, a used-book and bake sale and awards ceremony.

Race time is 8:30 a.m. – Hope to see you on May 31!

DCES Spring Spirit Wear
The spring/summer spirit wear items are available for sale.  Look for them on the website or view them in person in the front lobby on the PTA bulletin board. There are a few new items from the fall sale.  New for spring are black nylon shorts with the Deer Crossing symbol on the left leg. These are great for soccer or play.  Also, a short sleeve t-shirt is available. New this year, is a green, nylon sport pack with the Deer Tracks symbol, great for the pool or beach.  Even though school is out soon, we can still show support for Deer Crossing!

Teacher Appreciation Week
Don’t forget that next week is Teacher Appreciation Week.  The PTA extends our warmest thanks and appreciation to the teachers and staff who work so tirelessly to make Deer Crossing such a great learning environment for our children.
