Two Hour Late Arrival
On Friday, May 15, students arrive two hours late for a teacher work session. On days we arrive late, we will hold a 90 minute instructional session in the morning and the afternoon for the Pre-K program. The morning sessions will run from the regularly scheduled start time for 90 minutes. Morning Pre-K will arrive at 11:00 and dismiss at 12:30 and afternoon Pre-K will arrive at 2:00 and dismiss at 3:30. If you have questions about the schedule please contact the school office.
Fitness Friday, May 1
Staff, students and volunteers are welcome to wear fitness gear tomorrow to promote maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It will also serve as a reminder of our upcoming Deer Dash.
PTA Informational Tea
Please join us to learn about the functions of a school PTA and the job responsibilities for each board position on Friday, May 1 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the cafeteria. The President, Vice President and Treasurer positions will be open for next year. DCES is anxious to begin planning for the 2009-2010 year and gather interest from community members to run for open board positions. The present and future President of the FCPS PTA Council will be sharing ideas, initiatives and information about the PTA in general.
Oakdale High School Redistricting
The Board of Education met recently in a day long workshop and crafted two new options for the Oakdale High School redistricting study. See www.fcps.org/ohsredistricting --- yellow box --- for details and next steps. Maps will soon be available at the school for public view.

Volunteer Breakfast
Please save the date for the Deer Crossing Volunteer Breakfast on Wednesday, May 13 from 8:30 to 9:30 AM in the DCES cafeteria. Volunteers will receive invitations with additional information in early May.

Deer Crossing is excited to become a FindOutFirst School. This NEW school based email service will improve school-home communication. To get DCES email, update your choices now! Select your areas of interest including general announcements, updates on events, PTA news and much more. Go to: www.fcps.org/fof/dces. Login with your email address and password. Now you can update your user information. Update your school relationships section by selecting DCES and your relationship to DCES. Choose the types of DCES news of interest to you. After updating, you will get DCES email notices targeted to your interests. DCES welcomes family and community involvement in education.
Springfest Wrap Up
Thanks to everyone who helped out with Springfest 2009! To all of our basket coordinators, the baskets were a huge success! Special thanks to Melissa Desmond who took the time to wrap each of them, they looked wonderful and were very well received. Thanks to Mrs. O’Donnell and Mrs. Ingram for your time in the dunk tank. To all of the volunteers and teachers who lent a helping hand, we couldn’t have done it without you!
