Change to School Calendar
This is a special reminder that FCPS will dismiss students 2 hours early: Thursday, March 26 for a teacher work session that the BOE approved last November.
NOTE: This does not appear in the Calendar Handbook, which was printed before the decision to add a 7th teacher work session was approved.
Jump Rope for Heart Re-scheduled
Jump Rope for Heart is re-scheduled for Thursday, March 26 at 1:30 p.m. Participating students will report to the gym at dismissal and will need to be picked up by 3:30 p.m. from the gym.
Parent Conferences
Due to the inclement weather on Monday and the cancellation of school, the county has decided not to reschedule this day. If you had a conference scheduled on Monday with a teacher, please contact him or her to reschedule. Hopefully a joint time can be determined to meet. Other options include a phone or email conference.
Kindergarten/Pre-K registration
Kindergarten/Pre-Kindergarten registration will be ongoing. Please stop by the office during regular school hours to register your child for Kindergarten or Pre-Kindergarten.
Teacher Requests/Grouping Process
Many of you may already be thinking ahead to next year anticipating your child’s teacher placement. Grouping of students in classrooms is an extensive and lengthy process involving many key professionals in our building. We are proud of the process that we have established and found it to be effective. Last year, administration received over 100 requests from parents asking that their child(ren) be placed with a specific teacher. While we certainly understand that you, as parents, know your child the best, these requests significantly impacted our process. This year, we will not be accepting requests that name a specific teacher. If you feel the need to make a request, we ask that you share in writing the learning style of your child along with the teaching style that you think would best match. We are confident that with our grouping process, we can make an appropriate placement, and ask that you put your confidence in us in making the best choice for your child(ren). Thank you for your understanding and support.

MSA Testing
Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 will be taking the Maryland School Assessments (MSA) in the mornings beginning Monday, March 16 through Monday, March 23. Please make sure your child gets enough sleep and eats a healthy breakfast before testing. You should also try to avoid scheduling appointments or vacations that would remove your child from school on testing days. Attendance is just as important during MSA testing as it is during the rest of the school year. The schedule for each grade is below.
Monday, March 16 – Grades 3 and 4
Tuesday, March 17 – Grades 3 and 5
Wednesday, March 18 – Grades 4 and 5
Thursday, March 19 – Grades 3 and 4
Friday, March 20 – Grades 3 and 5
Monday, March 23 – Grades 4 and 5
Student Safety Reminders
Safety of our students and staff are priority. Cooperation from everyone is appreciated and most effective. Please keep in mind the following reminders:
-Students cannot be dropped off prior to 8:30am unless reporting for a scheduled before school activity. Our car rider doors are locked up until 8:30 and students that are dropped off prior to this time are left waiting outside at the door.
-Please do not drop off your child in the parking lot. Our car rider duty personnel cannot be held accountable for personally escorting your child(ren) across the parking lot as they are needed to supervise/assist our car riders. Walking across a parking lot and busy car rider line is dangerous.
-Please do not use our grass as a way to pass cars in the car rider line. Safety is jeopardized and we take great pride in keeping our grounds looking nice.
Class Pictures
Class pictures will be taken on Tuesday, March 31. Ordering information will be sent home within the next few weeks.
