May 6, 2009

Dear Parents,
Before the school year ends, we want to share some staffing changes with you. We welcome Ms. Suzanne Butler, who will serve as our targeted intervention teacher, as our newest staff member. Grade level changes include Mrs. Kramer, from second to first, Mrs. Gingerich, from third to second and Mr. Miller, from fifth to fourth. We welcome several part time specials teachers: Ms. Tina Shriver will again join Mrs. Hohman in Physical Education, Ms. Elizabeth Wagner will continue with Mr. Cook, in Music and new to our staff will be Mr. Meredith Springer and Ms. Kelly Harrison who will be joining Ms. Dirks in Art.
As you know, Mr. DeGrange will be transferring to Liberty Elementary and we will be welcoming our new principal from Liberty Elementary, Mrs. Drenna Reineck.
Mrs. Reineck began her teaching career in Florida followed by a move to West Virginia. She has taught in Florida and West Virginia and worked as an administrator in West Virginia and Maryland. Her husband works for Thomas Somerville Company where he is the manager of a wholesale facility. She has two children, Kristin who works for Subway at their headquarters in Connecticut and Jennifer who flies for Air Wisconsin. Kristin and her husband, Michael, have two children; Kate just turned two and Mark just turned 3 months. Jennifer is single and in addition to flying is working on her MBA. Mrs. Reineck is also the mom of two bichons, Bonnie & Clyde. She is looking forward to attending a PTO meeting soon and has already begun visiting and transitioning to our school. She became a teacher to make a difference in the lives of children and all these years later that is still why she is in education. Mrs. Reineck is very excited to become a part of the Brunswick family.

Summer Reading Rocks
BES announces a spectacular campaign for reading this summer! Every student will leave school this June with four books to enjoy, read, share, discuss and reread! The donated books will be available for your child’s selection on the two dates listed below.
There are consistent studies that show that students, who do not read over the summer, suffer an average reading loss of three months. We are going to do everything possible to stop that loss! Research tells us that reading a minimum of four books will fend off the loss. Join us in the BES Cafeteria on either Tuesday, June 9 or Wednesday, June 10 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. as your child selects four free books. Watch for other summer dates when you will be able to bring your child and swap those books for new ones!
Children need to be accompanied by an adult.

Please look for BES books!
Please help us! Unlike library books, our classroom reading books don’t have bar codes. Therefore, it is difficult to track down our missing books. This year, our inventory is showing a HUGE loss of reading books. Right now the list adds to thousands of dollars, and equates to books your child won’t have available next year. While we search for the misplaced books at school, we would like to enlist your help in looking for them at home too. There are too many titles to list, but it is easy to identify if the books are ours from a Brunswick Elementary stamp inside the cover and usually a number inked in on the back of the book. Perhaps your child left a book at Grandma’s house or at the babysitter’s house. Teachers will be on the lookout for returning books and will reward the detectives for their finds! Thank you for your support.
