Issue of Safety and Courtesy

Some BCMS parents have expressed a concern that in the haste of parents dropping off students, some drivers may not take care or look for pedestrians. Please be very watchful for moving vehicles when you drop off your child. If you park to come inside or walk your child inside, be mindful of other drivers and buses. Again, please take the time to drop your child at the drop off area.

Also, for safety reasons, there can be NO U-TURNS anywhere in the driveway or at the stop sign and NO CARS can be in the bus lane 7:20-8:00 a.m. The front parking lot is only for handicap drop-off or pick up if a parent is coming into the building. All students MUST be dropped off at the designated place.

RECYCLING FUNDRAISER

HELP OUR ENVIRONMENT and BCMS at the same time. We are recycling empty ink jet cartridges, old cell phones and aluminum cans to earn extra funds for our school.

Please give your cans to Mr. Allen in room 175. Cell phones and ink jet cartridges can be brought to Mr. Allen's classroom (175) or to Mrs. Purdy in the back computer lab (138).

Remember to place your aluminum cans from lunch in the reycling bin located by the entrance to the snack line.

PARENTS COUNT!

WHY FINANCIAL LITERACY COUNTS

Earning money and knowing how to use it wisely are arguably two of the most important skills needed to survive on this planet.

Studies show that if a child doesn’t learn financial literacy at home, chances are he or she won’t learn it at all. That’s why your role as a parent is key.

Here are some tips on helping your child to become financially literate:

Give your child a piggy bank, or open a savings account for him or her and encourage regular deposits.
Let your child make small choices about what to buy with his or her own money.
Demonstrate setting a budget, comparison shopping, paying bills.
Have a conversation with your teen about the real cost of life after high school. Share what you know about rent, mortgages, taxes, health insurance, car payments and saving for retirement.
Explain the pitfalls of using credit cards. Do not let your young teenager have a credit card.
Encourage your child to take an economics or financial literacy class in high school.
Help your teen set short- and long-term financial goals, and work out a budget with them when they get that first part-time job.
